Learn more about the high quality options that are available to all Burke Aviation students.

Where do I start?

Most Aviation students begin their freshman year by enrolling in Introduction to Aircraft and Rocketry - a one semester introduction to the Academy.  Many students also take Astronomy in our state of the art Planetarium.​

What's next?

As they enter their second year, students begin their dual-enrollment opportunities.  Students enroll in Introduction to Aeronautics and Space (AVN 1000).  This rigorous design of this course brings our students fully into our program.  Students have the option to dual-enroll this course with the
​UNO Aviation Institute.

Navigate to your future.

 
Starting Junior year, students complete the final steps of aviation education before they enter their career path.  Aviation Safety is a prerequisite for all capstone courses.  Both Aviation History and Aviation Safety are dual-enrolled with UNO Aviation Institute.

Start your career.

 Most Air and Space students begin their career coursework their Senior Year.  Students can select
​one or more career pathways.  Each pathway is linked with local business\educational institutions that can help take the student directly into their career.  More information, check out our career pathway opportunities.

3 Pathways to your Career.

Aviation Mechanics.

Students in Aviation Mechanics prepare to enter the workforce of Aviation Maintenance.  Our courses give students the experience with industry-standard tools and materials to give them an advantage as they enter the work force.  

These students will be able to work with Duncan Aviation, Iowa Western, and other local businesses to gain real-world experience in the field.

Powered Flight.

Students in Powered Flight prepare to ride the skies as a pilot.  Our curriculum and in-house CFI (Certified Flight Instructor) allow students to complete the testing portion of their private pilot's license while still in high school.  

Our important partnership with the UNO Aviation Institute allows for a seemless transition from Burke to a nationally renowned flight school.

These students will be able to work with Jetlinx, Orcale Aviation, and Advanced Air to gain flight experience and open their doors toward being a pilot.

Aviation Technology.

Students in Aviation Technology will prepare themselves to be on the cutting edge of aviation and robotics.  Our unique curriculum allows these students to gain their Part 107 certification - allowing them to be commercially hired as a drone pilot! 

Our important partnership with the UNO Aviation Institute allows for a seemless transition from Burke to their growing drone flight school.

These students will be able to work with the Unmanned Safety Institute to gain the professional skills and develop their marketability with local businesses.
